Governor Holcomb Takes Action on Border Security

Governor Eric Holcomb of Indiana has made a decisive move to address the challenges posed by the porous U.S. southern border. In an announcement made today, the governor declared the deployment of the Indiana National Guard to assist in the ongoing border security mission in Texas.

A Response to Federal Negligence

Governor Holcomb attributed the decision to the federal government’s negligence in enforcing immigration laws, which, he claims, poses a significant threat to national and economic security. The governor expressed concerns about the open U.S. border leading to a constant supply of illicit drugs, undermining the hard work done in Indiana to combat the drug epidemic.

Following a direct request from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Governor Holcomb is sending 50 Hoosier Guardsmen to the southern border. These soldiers will play a vital role in supporting the border security mission and addressing the challenges posed by illegal immigration.

The Indiana National Guard soldiers are set to begin mobilizing immediately, with their arrival in Texas scheduled for mid-March. Prior to deployment, the troops will undergo a week of intensive training at Camp Atterbury to familiarize themselves with the operations of the mission. The deployment is anticipated to last for 10 months.

Major General Dale Lyles, the adjutant general of the Indiana National Guard, emphasized the unique capabilities of the soldiers and airmen under his command. Whether responding to natural disasters, standing with allies abroad, or safeguarding the nation’s borders, the Indiana National Guard is prepared to mobilize swiftly and effectively.

Highlighting the commitment of the Indiana National Guard to securing the southern border, the article notes that from October 2020 to October 2023, 300 Indiana Guardsmen and women have been actively involved in various federal missions aimed at enhancing border security.

In conclusion, Governor Holcomb’s decision to deploy the Indiana National Guard underscores the gravity of the challenges faced at the U.S. southern border. By actively participating in the ongoing border security mission, Indiana aims to contribute to national safety and protect its residents from the repercussions of lax immigration enforcement.
