In the final moments, the Pistons faced tense situations, holding a seven-point lead with only 24 seconds remaining. A Pascal Siakam corner 3, along with traded free throws and a Gary Trent 3-pointer, narrowed the gap to a two-point game. However, fate favored the Detroit Pistons this time, securing a 129-127 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
This win marked the end of the Pistons’ NBA record-tying 28-game losing streak, prompting elation among the team members. Cade Cunningham, reflecting on the victory, expressed his joy, stating, “I feel amazing. It feels good. It’s been a long time coming.”
While Coach Monty Williams acknowledged the sense of relief, he emphasized that there is still a substantial amount of basketball ahead.
Despite the Raptors facing a challenging situation with a back-to-back road game, a trade earlier in the day, and being shorthanded, the Pistons capitalized on the opportunity. Cade Cunningham led with 30 points and 12 assists, supported by Bogdanovic with 19 points, Jalen Duren contributing 18 points and 17 rebounds, and Alec Burks delivering a strong performance off the bench with 16 points.
On the Raptors’ side, Pascal Siakam showcased his skills with 35 points, Dennis Schroder added 30 points, and Gary Trent Jr. contributed 24. Although Toronto’s offense displayed efficiency, they struggled to defend and prevent the Pistons from reaching the free-throw line, ultimately making a significant impact on the game.
While the end of the losing streak is a moment of relief for the Pistons, it doesn’t overshadow the challenges they still face, including concerns about the roster’s construction and long-term direction. Acknowledging that changes are necessary, there remains much work ahead for the Pistons. Nonetheless, for now, they can exhale and celebrate the end of their prolonged losing streak.
